Ode to BTVS
Ok, so I've watched TV shows off and on throughout my life and I've liked some more than others. Buffy The Vampire Slayer is an entirely different story though. I've become so involved with the characters and this alternate reality that I can't imagine not sitting down to watch them every Tuesday night.
Kudos to Joss Whedon on his expert creation of this magical, demon-arse-kicking world, where the good guys may win, but not without cost to themselves.
I love this quote: "I designed Buffy to be an icon, to be an emotional experience, to be loved in a way that other shows can't be loved." Well Mr. Whedon, I'd say you succeeded.
Buffy: destined to a life tormented, without love, but lucky enough to have her own Scooby gang – Sarah Michelle Gellar = AWESOME AWESOME JOB bringing this girl to life.
Xander: goofy, fun-loving mischief-maker, with a truly good heart - Nicholas Brendon = Love ya! Great character, fun, funny, with hidden substance, I was surprised by his singing voice – very good. Really hope to see this guy elsewhere.
Willow: innocent and pure (pre-Oz), now a force to be reckoned with, good heart, but don’t tick her off – Alyson Hannigan = Great Job creating a character with so many layers, great humor, and congrats on the upcoming wedding!
Dawn: slightly whiny, in the midst of teen-angst hell-mouth style, draws some sympathy - Michelle Trachtenberg = Up-and-coming, as they say, great choice for the slayers lil sis, sure we’ll see her around.
Giles: the stuffy watcher with a dash of sexy-arse-kicking-musician, guiding light for so long – Anthony Stewart Head = love the voice, love the accent, best possible choice for a watcher, looking for you elsewhere.
Anya: exdemon, blunt to a fault but funny as can be, surprising addition to the cast, but grew to love her bluntness – Emma Caulfield = she plays Anya like no-one could and I’m glad she was made a member of the cast.
Spike: Mmmm Mmmm good, can’t say enough about this bad-boy turned loving puppy turned semi-bad but still craving the slayer? He’ll always have a bad streak, that’s why we love him. That and he’s so bad at being bad ; ) - James Marsters = yummy, love that you play being bad at being bad so well… ; )

Ah I could go on and on and on….

Favorite Episode: BTVS Musical – Once More With Feeling

What has brought on this sudden reflection?
UPN has announced the show will not be returning next year.
/cry
/sigh
It was a great run and I’ve already bought the first three seasons on DVD (ouchie on the wallet but good for the soul and tickling the funny-bone)
Reading Addiction
I agreed to be a member of an online lit club this semester for a friend of mine. For a class project she developed an online portfolio and I helped her set up a message board. Two other women and myself have been asked to read Wizard's Bane and to answer questions regarding the story. It's a fantasy story by Rick Cook and reminds me a lot of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings but it has its own modern-day twists. It took me a bit to get into it but once I got through the first chapter I was hooked. The problem: I'm not supposed to read ahead and I really want to.

Spring Break
It's only a week away and my tickets are taunting me. I can't wait to go home, hug my parents, sleep in my own bed, and snuggle with my puppy and kitties... Maybe I won't want to come back!? hehehe Nah. I'm finally having fun in school. I can't think of any time before in my life when I really truly enjoyed school. But now, School=FUN!

We are doing a mock-trial in my social studies methods class. Silly me, I volunteered to be the accused. Then the class went through crime ideas and voted on the one they liked best - apparently I'm accused of being neglectful and leaving my 13 month old in the car while I was at work. I'm going through listing the details of this fictional mother of three and her life's history. It's a horribly depressing topic and I'm wishing I hadn't volunteered. I never thought they would choose something like that as my crime. Anywho, the trial starts tomorrow.

I'm still waiting on a letter stating the date and time of my interview for the RA position. My roomy got hers yesterday and all I received was a crummy low interest credit card offer, imagine my disappointment!

I had a fun weekend. My roomy and I went to hear her uncle and cousins play at a bar in a nearby town on Saturday night. It was a very nice place with a lounge/restaraunt area. They guys were good, wacky as always. I also danced with a cutie named Rick. My poor roomy got stuck with the drunk guy who had russian hands and roman fingers. I hated that we had to leave early. Hopefully they'll play there again sometime soon so we can go back.

On a happier note, I'm Bubbly!

You're bubbly! Life doesn't get you down, or if it

Picture of the Day

Purpley Goodness!
It was a giant pain in the tush to get my blog template fixed but I'm happy with the way it turned out.

ASL
I'm in the midst of my second semester of ASL, something I've wanted to learn since I was in the third grade. Last night i received a great big compliment from my instructor. My ASL teacher has mentioned before that my signing is very clear and that I am doing a wonderful job, she even wrote a note on one of my quizes saying she hopes I can find a way to incorporate signing into my teaching career. Last night after class I was talking to her about why some signers are easier to watch than others and she asked me if I was planning on getting a HH/Deaf license. She told me againthat my signing was very clearn and she said I just seemed to "get it." I was beaming. I am so excited to finally be learning ASL that I'm practicing everyday and it makes me feel good when I can understand all of what someone is saying to me. It's hard to explain. It's like I've found my niche. My roomy found her niche, English, but I've been searching for quite a while now. I'm going to look into earning a licensure to teache hh/deaf children or possibly ASL. In any event I will be signing up for more classes when I move back to Texas. This school only offers ASL 1 and ASL 2.

I'm totally revamping my blog and while it's fun, it's giving me some headaches :(

John Lund's Animal Antics are right up my alley.

I heard a wonderful idea from one of my Roomy's classmates, Caroline , about adding a word of the day to your blog. She even gave me permission to use her idea! Thanks Caroline!

Today's word is Perspicacious .
It's one of my favorite words. Don't you just love the way it rolls off your tongue?
That gives me another idea.... maybe I'll start doing a Picture of the Day!

I'm going home for Spring Break! I wasn't planning on it but I was looking around at plane tickets online for travel to New Zealand and I thought to myself "Hey, I wonder what tickets back to Texas are costing now." So I lookd and I found a great deal. I called my parents and they were like "Yeah! Come home! Wooo!" and stuff. I've only been back up here for a month and there's only a month left to Spring Break, but with what's been going on with my grandfather I really wanted to go back for a bit. I'll be home all summer too, but that seems so far away right now. When I told my mom I got the tickets she started listing off the things I could do when I was home, move my piano, pack some more of my old stuff up, etc. I was thinking oh goodie :P hehe But that's what I did all Christmas Break, in between visiting friends and family. I have entirely too much stuff. It's sad. I don't know how a 24 year old could possibly have accumulated as much stuff as I have. It's a mystery. Anywho I'm off work now so on to my other job then class and then FREEDOM!

Awwwww....
Ok, how cute is this!
Just a little something my roomy found, she's always finding interesting things :) Too bad it's not in English, I'd like to know what the text says.

I'm having some difficulty with my resume. I have to turn one in with my application to be an RA and I can't find a form I like, I'm not sure what information to include, and I haven't even started my cover letter. AHHHH!
Okies... I feel a little better. I just need to get it done and then I'll be all better.
My roomy did both of hers last night and I read over them, they're awesome. I wish I had her flare for words :P But alas I am not the English major, she is.

Family...
My grandfather is out of ICU and into his own hospital room. His blood pressure and hear rate are still a little irregular so they're keeping an eye on him.

New Zealand...
I'm doing some research on this beautiful country as I hope to do my student teaching there in the fall of 2004.
Here is a link to the New Zealand Herald, where I've been keeping tabs on local events.

What a weekend.

Seven great explorers were lost yesterday.
I was in total shock when I heard this, as I'm sure everyone else was.
I vaguely remember when the Challenger and it's crew were lost in 1986, I was only 8 years old. Watching the footage of yesterday's accident brought back old memories. The wreckage is scattered all over east Texas and Louisiana.
My grandparents live just north of this area and the rest of my family live northwest of there so I am receiving updates from my parents. I am very sad for those that were lost and very thankful there were no more people injured than there was, but it is definitely a very bad situation.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those lost.

On a slightly cheerier not... I had a chain of new experiences yesterday.
My roomy and I went to see her mom yesterday and she took us out on the lake ice fishing. We DROVE onto the lake in her mom's giant Expedition. I'd seen people driving, parking, fishing, etc on the lake since I moved up here and I always say to myself "Those crazy Minnesotans! You'll never catch me out there!" But if you'd been around yesterday you would. Not only that but the second I had my line in the water I got a bite, a Walleye, the state fish. It was a baby and I'd already said the only way I'd do it is if I could catch and release, so we let it go. I had a couple other bites, but nothing reeled in. It got cold pretty fast when the wind picked up so we only stayed out there for about 45 mins. While we were out there I saw half a dozen parasailers going over the lake. I also got to hear the lake talk.... I had no idea. It sounded like somebody had their radio up too high and all I was hearing was the base from time to time. It was creepy but also really cool. So that was my Saturday :)
