Separation Anxiety?

Ok... so I had a couple of ladies over tonight and one brought her two dogs (a boxer and a lab). We let all three dogs out and they ran around and played like crazy. We came back inside for 45 mins or so, then the ladies left. I walked out with them, was gone maybe 3 minutes and came back to find that Kaylee had gotten into all sorts of mischief.

It's like the second I walk out the door she goes ballistic. I'm thinking it's not just an energy issue. I'm thinking it's separation anxiety - she freaks when I leave her.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

I'm reading Cesar Millan's book: Cesar's Way, but I haven't gotten to the "good stuff" yet.

  2. She is definitely testing you! You may have to resort to an enclosed area for her when you are out...

  3. Susie is already looking to Jeremy for support. She runs to the door when she hears him come in. Last evening he was grilling, and she stayed right at the patio door to watch him. They can get attached really quick. Doing the mind bubble might reassure her that you are there for her. Darcy and I were just talking about how the mind stuff works. She does it for sick animals. FYI Mark just spend 10 dayd in the hospital. Darcy will be going back to CA to spend time with him. Linda

  4. Aspen! Your Mom told me I should come read about the new puppy! Someday maybe your Kaylee-puppy should meet MY KAYLEE-Shire horse!

  5. The hardest thing is definitely getting the dog to do what you want--and the best is to catch it in the act. Then, have a firm punishment, whether that be a kennel or confined space. Then, if she's good when you're away those other times, give a treat, so she knows!

Otherwise, it's being around 24/7. If the puppy was from a puppy mill, or a place where the puppy wasn't held a lot, then it can be hard to get it to know that you are the alpha.
